STREETLY ACADEMY RAISE OVER £9000 FOR BREAST CANCER NOW

A team of over 100 comprising students, parents, and teachers from Streetly Academy, has raised £9056 for the Breast Cancer Now.

Jonny Boyes, Assistant Head Year 9, who co-ordinated the team entry said: “We have always looked to raise money and support a charity with a direct link to a student or member of staff at the school.

“Two of our female staff members were diagnosed with breast cancer and it was a natural choice to support a breast cancer charity.

“Students, staff and families connected with school, embraced the choice of charity in not only participating in the Fun Run but raising a significant sum of money for Breast Cancer Now.

“The team has raised more than last year and that’s a fabulous result considering the current challenges on household budgets. I’d like to thank everyone who participated, supported the team or donated. It’s a tremendous outcome and I’m extremely proud of what we achieved this year.”

Katie Eagle, community fundraising executive at Breast Cancer Now said: “We want to say a huge thank you to the amazing Streetly Academy team for raising such an incredible amount of money for Breast Cancer Now. We are grateful to the school’s staff and students who participated in the Royal Sutton Fun Run.

“Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, with around 55,000 women and 400 men diagnosed every year. The money raised at this event will help fund our pioneering research and specialist support for people affected by this devastating disease, which remains as important and urgent as ever.”

Fun Run Director, Vanessa Hoe said: “Streety Academy is a shining beacon of what can be achieved through participation in the Fun Run. Not only can the students, teachers and parents of all ages and abilities engage is an out of school activity together, but the students can gain an appreciation of the huge personal & community benefits of fundraising and helping others.

“Streetly Academy has raised close to £38,000 over the last four Royal Sutton Fun Run’s, which Is a fantastic achievement, and they should be extremely proud of their fundraising.”

Online registration for the 42nd Royal Sutton Fun Run opens over the first weekend of February with the event due to be staged on Sunday 1st June 2025. Places will be limited to 5500.
