BISHOP VESEY’S GRAMMAR SCHOOL RAISE £4654 FOR BIRMINGHAM MIND

A team of over 130, comprising students, parents, and teachers from Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School, has raised £4654 for the Birmingham Mind.

Claire Bolton, Business Development at the school said: “We’re delighted to have raised over £4600 for our chosen charity Birmingham Mind, particularly as this was the first time the school had entered an official team in the Royal Sutton Fun Run.

“What was most pleasing is that the decision to enter a team and raise money for a local charity was initiated by the students. They were the driving force behind the project. I was there to offer a guiding hand when necessary.

“The students are acutely aware that more young people than ever are experiencing mental health issues which has only accelerated since the Covid pandemic. They were adamant they wanted to support a charity directly supporting those with mental health challenges hence the choice of Birmingham Mind.

“It’s been a steep learning curve for all of us involved and we’re now much better prepared for 2026 with the new charity captains already working on plans for next year.”

Rachel McNair, Marketing & Communications Lead at Birmingham Mind said: “We want to say a huge thank you to the amazing team from Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School for choosing to support Birmingham Mind and for raising such an incredible amount of money for our charity. We’re grateful to the charity captains and Claire Bolton for their hard work in encouraging so many students, parents & staff to participate in the Fun Run.

“Funds donated to Birmingham Mind, support services such as our central Birmingham Wellbeing Hub, located inside the Bullring & Grand Central. It not only provides in-person advice, information and signposting service, but it is a safe and quiet space in the city centre for those who need it.

“The service is open to anyone, whether they have a mental health diagnosis or not. No appointments are needed, and people can remain anonymous if they wish.”

Fun Run Director, Vanessa Hoe said: “We were thrilled to see such a large team enter from Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School. They registered the largest team this year and their hard work and endeavour has paid off handsomely with over £4600 being raised for Birmingham Mind.

“Not only can the students, teachers and parents of all ages and abilities engage in an out of school activity together, but the students can gain an appreciation of the huge personal & community benefits of fundraising and helping others.”
